Over the last decade, many clothing companies have moved away from your standard sewn-in brand label or care label to something that could be called tagless, heat seal or pad printed label. These labels are used quite a bit in performance apparel as they don’t rub up against your body and itch like the traditional sewn in labels. They also can be less expensive to purchase and less expensive to place into the garments.
Darn It’s apparel repair team has been asked hundreds of times to remove a sewn in main label or care/content label and replace it with the correct one. What happens if you have a shipment of apparel with the incorrect tagless label? What do you do now?
We have been asked to remove the tagless labels in the past and it always turns out to be a messy undertaking. The use of chemicals to loosen the adhesive is not preferred by our customers and doesn’t work for all tagless labels. Trying to blast it off with steam or water pressure just ruins the area it was printed on and in most cases it won’t all come off.
What if you COVERED UP the incorrect label with a new heat transfer / tagless label and could ensure that all of the information on the original label was out of sight never to be seen again?
This is a solution that we now offer to all of our customers. Over the last 3 years, Darn It’s Apparel Repair team has worked with our customers to cover up labels on everything from Bras and Pants to Overalls and Leggings. The process is quite simple and much less expensive than taking a label out of a garment and sewing one or two back in. The key to the operation is the new label. Our customers need to be sure that the new label is slightly larger than the original one on the garments. This will ensure a great seal and adhere around and on top of the old one.
The consumer will never know that the original label in the garment had the wrong size, the wrong fit, the wrong content or even the wrong brand logo.
