It happens to all of us. We are out for the evening and someone whispers in your ear, your fly is down. It’s a little embarrassing but we zip it up and move on. What if your fly was down and wide open and you couldn’t zip it up and close it?
One of our customers had this problem with approximately 6,000 pairs of pants. They called and mentioned that they had pants where the zipper slider when zipped up all the way would come off completely leaving someone’s fly open and there was no chance of customer fixing it. They asked if Darn It! could help.
We requested 12 samples of different sizes to test at our facility. Once the samples were received, the Darn It! Apparel Repair Team concluded that there were two options for repairing the pants. The first one was to purchase a metal stopper for the top part of the zipper and clamp it on to the same side as the pull. The other option was to put a permanent stitch in the same area to prevent the zipper slider from coming off.
Our customer, after reviewing the 12 samples we completed, chose to have us stitch the top of the zipper as we could begin that process immediately with our sewing repair team.
Once the pants were received, we brought them to our sewing department and had a stitch placed at the very top of the zipper to prevent the pull from releasing from the pant. After that was complete, the pants moved to the Darn It! Apparel Inspection Team to inspect the stitching and inspect the pant by zipping and unzipping the fly 3-4 times.
Once the pants were deemed repaired, we refolded, re-bagged and re-boxed the pants back into their original packaging and shipped back to the retailer for sale.
The project to complete the 6,000 pants took less than 5 days to complete. The customer was able to save the pants and get them onto the shelves in time for their spring sale.
Disaster averted and all fly’s are now safe to zip up and secure.
