What happens when a quality issue arises with one of your inbound shipments? You start swearing, pointing fingers, and get stressed out to the max. You also sit and crunch the numbers and try to figure out how much of a loss this shipment is going to generate and how to make up for it. Finally, you are trying to now figure out if you must dispose of the garments and how to possibly do that!
How about after you finish swearing, pointing fingers and take a few deep breaths, you call Darn It and their Apparel Inspection or Apparel Repair Teams! Once we establish a relationship with a customer, we ask them to call us first to see if there is anything that our teams can do to help salvage their shipment and get it back onto the shelves and into their customers’ hands quickly.
This is exactly what happened this spring when one of our customers called our Apparel Repair Team with a problem. They called in a panic because some of their customers were calling them stating that the side seams and inseams on their new pair of shorts were coming apart while wearing them. The customer immediately pulled them off their website and sent us six samples to see if we could do anything to help them.
Once we received the samples, we realized that the manufacturer overseas used a much larger spaced stitch and a lighter thread than they should have in these areas. We recommended reinforcing all of the side seams and inseams using a stronger thread and stitching a tighter stitch. After completing the samples, we performed a full time study so that we could give the customer a price and turn time for the 3,300 pair of shorts.
Once the details were agreed upon, they sent us all the shorts for repair. All the repairs for this garment were performed on the inside of the garment with the new stitching. The consumer will never know that additional stitching was applied. They WILL know that they are wearing a quality pair of shorts. Once the repairs were complete, the shorts were inspected and placed in their original cartons and shipped back to our customer!
The entire process was Seamless!
